INTERESTING FACTS

DID YOU KNOW … Coach John Wood scored the first John Glenn touchdown in September 1964, in a 26-13 opening loss to St. Clair. However, Wood was not the first wrestler to get a win, however. That distinction goes to 133 pounder, Mike Knight. Wood did get the first pin, though.

The first John Glenn dual meet was held on a cold December night in 1964. The opponent, Garden City West (now defunct), came to Glenn and knocked off the Rockets 36-16. The match was held in the far west gym and was sparsely attended. The divider closed it off from the main gym so that it would not interfere with basketball.

John Glenn’s first dual meet victory was also the first winter sport to gain a win. Glenn went down to Monroe and defeated Monroe Catholic Central 34-18 on December 22, 1964.
